What is Bill C-8?

Introduced in June 2025, Bill C-8  is Canada’s first major cybersecurity legislation designed to protect both telecommunications and critical infrastructure.
The first part of the law amends the Telecommunications Act to allow the government to prohibit products or services that pose a threat to Canada’s telecommunications system.
As of March 2026, Bill C-8 is still in the report stage in the House of Commons.

What is CCSPA?

The second part of Bill C-8 (CCSPA) requires designated operators in critical industries to implement a cybersecurity program, manage supply chain and third-party risks, report significant incidents, comply with cybersecurity orders, and follow confidentiality and record-keeping requirements.
The legislation emphasizes asset inventories, network segmentation, threat detection, and risk analysis, with a strong focus on OT/IoT environments, aligning with frameworks such as NIST CSF 2.0 and IEC 62443.
Penalties for non-compliance can reach up to $1 million for individuals and $15 million in other cases.Prefiero esta respuesta
